We have previously shared the news of the death of Peter Highton (1939-1947). OB Martyn Lawrence contacted us to provide some recollections of his friendship with Peter.
"In the 1970s I was taught to sail by Peter in his GP14 at the Bowater Sailing Club, Ridham Dock, eventually becoming his regular crew member for some years.
Peter was an enthusiastic competitor and master tactician; he always "sailed to win".
I am proud to say that I still have many of the cups and trophies that I won whilst crewing for Peter.
Peter's wife, May, was also a keen supporter of the Sailing Club, often performing the duties of Officer of the Day.
I seem to recall Peter and May lived in Borden Lane, before moving to Hartlip.
I remember Peter and May with great fondness."
