Ray Hill (BGS 1937-1942)

It is with sadness that we report the death of Ray Hill at the end of September 2020. He died peacefully at home in Minster.

Ray left Borden to undertake an electrical apprenticeship at HM Dockyard, Sheerness. Following this he studied in London obtaining a B.Sc Degree. He moved to Stafford where he became a turbine designer at English Electric.

He returned to Kent to teach at Maidstone Technical College. He moved to Surrey for the remainder of his career where he became the Senior Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at the University of Kingston.

Retirement saw him return to the Island with his wife June; they have two sons and grandchildren. Ray and June enjoyed tending a larger than average garden. They were also keen dancers and belonged to several modern sequence dance clubs both locally and in Surrey.

Ray always spoke fondly of his days at Borden grateful for the education he had received. He supported the Association and regularly attended the annual dinners in company with his nephew, Alan Hill.
